Trade Show Follow Up

Can you imagine this conversation between the VP Marketing (generates leads) and the VP Sales (closes the leads)

VP M: So how were the 100 leads I send you last month?
VP S: Great! We talked to 24 of them!
VP M: 24? What happened to the to the other 76?
VP S: I don’t know.
VP M: You don’t know? Why exactly?
VP S: We were busy selling!

You think I am crazy but that is the exact result many people experience when they return from exhibiting at a trade show. Statistics show that fully 76% of leads are not followed up on. What would you do with your sales department if they only followed up on one quarter of your leads? (By the way. What does a lead cost you?)

Las Vegas Trade Shows. The CES Goliath

A friend of mine recently returned from one of the biggest Las Vegas Trade Shows-the Consumer Electronics Show.

He said it was bigger and better than ever. Does this go against the trend of smaller, more focused, regional shows?

Tradeshow promotional items? Does a promotional pen really cut it?

I attended a trade show in Seattle in 2004 and there were 85 exhibitors present. As a test, I walked up and took a pen from each tradeshow exhibitor who had one on the table.

There were 22 booths where I walked up, took a pen, and kept on walking!

To me, if you are spending the money to exhibit at the show and you produce custom pens with a logo on it . . .

I am darn sure going to find out who the bloke is that walks up and grabs a pen!

Make sure you engage people who walk through your booth.

Las Vegas SUN: Glitches, hope for a digital future mark Gates' CES keynote speech

I love the real world! I have seen more product demonstrations 'fail' than you can shake a stick at.

Las Vegas SUN: Glitches, hope for a digital future mark Gates' CES keynote speech

Remember and never forget the PURPOSE of a demonstration. This one seemed to reinforce the Microsoft brand of 'computer freeze'. I am guessing that wasn't the goal of this presentation.

So if you absolutely MUST show a new product make sure you only show what works. No random 'let's just see what it does when you press this button' demos.

More on this later!

The Wedding Show is coming up!

And what do you think people are searching for surrounding a wedding show. I used a nifty little tool being beta tested by Google. http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

It will tell you how many times a particular term is being searched on. The results will suprise you!

Here are some interesting results. The search term is followed by the number of searches (in brackets) wedding fairs (126,000) wedding trade shows (730,000) wedding trade show (1,410,000) wedding tradeshows (29,500) bridal fair (2,060,000) bridal fairs (233,000) and finally bridal fair vancouver (89,800)

The question is: What does this tell you as a potential exhibitor? If you are interested in exhibiting in a bridal fair, are they doing their marketing? Is their show being found? I would say yes in the case of bridal fair vancouver!
